Truck Stops, Traffic, and the Son of God

Everyday there are girls being sold for sexual services. They casually walk to truck rest stops, hop into a truck and usually about 20 minutes later they leave. Many of the innocent girls involved require help and feel the longing need to end their suffering. Their called hot lizards, going from truck to truck being pimped and sold, by disgusting middle aged men. However, there is hope for these 'hot lizards.' Apparently the business of trafficing these women is done in broad daylight. The communities in which these crimes are taking place, simply failed to be aware of the problem at hand, letting the business thrive. Still, there are Americans such as Danielle Mitchell who are looking out for the issue, and refuses to let the girls voices go unheard. She's a  humanitarian in the sense that she believes that it only takes one person's suffering to be forced to do something to help. I am sure it is her christian background pushing her to help girls she had never met. She actively pursues ways to help these girls by posting hotlines the girls being trafficed can call. All it takes is a minimal amount of effort to help those who simply can not help themselves. Everyday we are so preoccupied with our own problems. As moral human beings, we need to make the conscience effort to at least recognize the suffering of those much worse off than ourselves, and this is one of the few aspects of religion and christianity I partake with.

  1. Simon, how does this Good Samaritan make sure that the girls who call her hotline are protected? There is always a risk for them, right? This is a situation that you have brought out attention to. How does this become an issue that is related to critical thinking? We could consider the question of how these girls get to the point that they resort to prostitution (if they enter into this situation willingly) or continue to do so (if they are forced to and then continue of their own accord). How do people come to make these decisions/choices in life?
